Welcome to the Decipher Wayback Archive!  This project aims to contain everything that ever existed on Decipher's old websites, starting with what the Wayback Machine has dutifully guarded over the decades.

Files were downloaded from the Wayback Machine in May/June 2021 and February 2022.  Wayback reported 100,000 files on the base domains, and after adding in all the subdomains, accounting for redundancy, and eliminating things like cgi-bin files, it clocks in at around 146,000 files.  However, due to the generosity of the SWCCG community, a manual backup by one of the members from 2004 was also sourced that contained many files from that era that fill in many of the holes in the Wayback record.  These two combined sources bring the grand total to 164,609 files (4GB compressed, 8.3 GB extracted)

(For those who are interested, the 2004 fan backup is available at 2004_decipher_backup.zip, kept separately since the way that html files are handled is different.)

(The vast majority of the inaccessible files are the card html files--which is to say, the page that holds the card image and nothing else. Given that the card images are stored separately, this makes these files all but worthless for us nowadays.)

HTML files are a little wonky because the CSS files are not linked properly, which usually results in what appears to be a blank white screen.  Scroll down and you should see the content of the file in the bottom half of the page.  The link to the Wayback archive for that file will be at the top, and you can copy-paste that into your browser if you would like to see the page rendered in all its glory (and with links working).  Images are hit-or-miss, as different wayback snapshots captured images at different times, and there's seldom a complete HTML page that manages to display all of them at once.  The archive here however has everything that existed at *some* point in time, so you can reconstruct the pages by hand if you edit the references appropriately.

(The *real* usage of these HTML files is being able to search them in a way that is difficult to do on the Wayback.  Search for a phrase using your file manager of choice and then use the link to the Wayback to browse around related files.)

For a complete listing of all files from the Wayback (2004 backup files have no equivalent listing), see metadata/sitemap/ for JSON payloads describing all files reported by Wayback.  Take those files and subtract anything that shows up in metadata/errors.txt, and you have a digest of all the Wayback files eventually retrieved.

See metadata/FileExtensions for a readout of what file types you can expect.  There are a large number of bbs board and forum pages, which make up a big chunk of the html (but not all; there were of course tons of articles and shop pages).

Everything else should just be in the zip folder for the appropriate domain!  There's tons of bits and bobs hiding in this archive.  If you find anything of particular interest, please bring it to everyone's attention!  You never know what you might find in here.
